Designed by the award-winning studio VERTEBRAL, Casa Ohana is a breathtaking 6-bedroom beachfront villa in Punta Zicatela. This property is a testament to the design duo’s commitment to sculptural forms that work in conversation with their environment, facilitating a genuine connection with the surrounding landscape.

The Design

Casa Ohana’s layout is reminiscent of ascending bleachers, with each room opening up into its own private garden to create intimate spaces that connect each space to nature while keeping the rooms ventilated and cool. In the communal areas, the open design allows the wind to cool the entire house naturally, even reaching the rear rooms.

True to VERTEBRAL’s background in landscape design, the villa incorporates local colors and indigenous plants, making it feel like a natural extension of its environment. Casa Ohana’s grand terrace offers shade and tranquility with unobstructed views of the sea and distant mountains, while the infinity pool extends out towards the Pacific as if to connect with the ocean.

Since completion, Casa Ohana has been included in the National Biennial of Mexican Architecture and received a Special Mention at the Architizer A+Awards

The Space

Casa Ohana is a beachfront villa perfect for large groups, with 6 air-conditioned bedrooms that sleep up to 20 people. The 2 master suites have king-sized beds, while the 4 additional bedrooms all have 2 double beds, sleeping up to 4 people. Every bedroom has its own ensuite.

  • Bedroom 1: King Bed
  • Bedroom 2: King Bed
  • Bedroom 3: 2 Queen Beds
  • Bedroom 4: 2 Queen Beds
  • Bedroom 5: 2 Queen Beds
  • Bedroom 6: 2 Queen Beds

The villa’s flipped layout places the communal areas on the second floor, keeping the bedrooms cool below. The spacious outdoor living and dining area is shaded by a palapa and immediately faces the infinity pool and beach access. Alternatively, you can relax in the indoor living area with plush couches and air conditioning. Towards the rear of the house is a shady walled garden and Jacuzzi.

Casa Ohana includes 24/7 concierge and security services, in-house staff, and WiFi. Additional amenities like a private chef and shopping service can be arranged for an extra fee. The villa is also pet-friendly, so no family members are left behind.

The Neighborhood

Casa Ohana is 10 minutes by car from Punta Zicatela, or "La Punta,” a small, laid-back surf town at the southern tip of Oaxaca's Pacific coast. Its main draw is the powerful surf break, which attracts serious surfers worldwide.

Punta Zicatela features a mix of unpaved roads and sandy stretches lined with cafes, yoga studios, and small shops. You can find a variety of local and international restaurants offering fresh seafood and vegetarian options, as well as laid-back bars for enjoying sunset drinks. We love the cocktail list and buzz at Punta Vida, located right on the beach.

To get to Casa Ohana, you can fly into Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM) and then take a taxi for a 25-30 minute drive. Alternatively, we can organize a shuttle or suggest car rental companies. Another option is a bus from major cities in Mexico, such as Oaxaca City, which takes approximately 3-4 hours thanks to a new highway opened in 2024. Bear in mind that ATMs are not always dependable on the ground, so bring some cash.

Casa Ohana is pet friendly!
