Casa Marena draws inspiration from classic beach-front cabañas to create a contemporary coastal retreat. With 4 bedrooms distributed across 2 bungalows connected by a sweeping open-plan palapa, Casa Marena’s thoughtful design is a highlight of the exclusive Punto Parajos area.
The project, which was initially led by architect Alberto Calleja and completed by Daniel Barragán, features high ceilings, open spaces, and expansive windows that frame the ocean views. Its open layout integrates the living, dining, and pool areas, with direct access to 7 miles of unspoiled white-sand beach.
The villa's neutral palette of palm, concrete, and wood complements the vibrant pops of color found in the hammocks, cushions, and furnishings. Monica enlisted local craftspeople to create custom pieces while selecting hand-picked objects from her favorite designers in Mexico City.
The thoughtful design extends to practical considerations, ensuring the house is easy to maintain while embracing the laid-back beach lifestyle. Every detail, from the carefully chosen textiles to the placement of hammocks, reflects how Mónica considered the functionality of each object without losing sight of the overall aesthetic.
Casa Marena was featured on the cover of Elle Decoration Mexico. You can read a review of the property on Food and Travel México.
Casa Marena comprises 2 bungalows with 2 rooms each, one with a king-size bed and the other with two bunk beds, ideal for children or groups of friends. Each room has a full bathroom with stylish raw concrete showers and sinks, and the in-house team makes beds daily.
The open-plan palapa living space merges indoors and out with panoramic ocean views and an infinity pool that faces directly out onto the beach. The pool’s design creates the illusion of being set directly into the white sand below, inviting you to explore the pristine coastline beyond.
Casa Marena also offers a chef service at an extra cost. We’ll be in touch beforehand to confirm the arrangements. Please bear in mind the team will need a transfer 5 days prior to your arrival to make sure the fridge is stocked for your arrival.
Casa Marena is located in the exclusive beach-front neighborhood of Punta Pajaros, 30 minutes from Puerto Escondido Airport and 45 minutes from downtown Puerto Escondido. The neighborhood—if you could call it that, considering its simplicity and isolation—features three small restaurants (that close early), a mezcal bar, and a handful of art galleries.
Punta Pajaro’s crown jewel is Bosco Sodi’s famed Casa Wabi, an art studio and exhibition space built by Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Rent a car or take a taxi to get here; don’t plan to go anywhere. This is a spot to relax and forget the world.
