Designed by the multi-award-winning studio Taller Alberto Callegjo (TAC), Casa Malandra is a 4-bedroom villa in Punta Pajaros, Punto Escondido’s art and architecture enclave. The home’s design is restrained yet wonderfully imaginative; built from only locally available materials in simple, cubic forms, TAC used endemic vegetation and water to embed the structure into the landscape.

Many vacation homes are referred to as an “oasis,” but Casa Malandra is quite literally a refuge built over cool, calm water. Arranged in a courtyard configuration over a glistening pool, each section of the house is connected by elegant wooden walkways. This design choice not only creates an ethereal aesthetic but also serves an important practical purpose: to cool the home from below.

The roof terrace, accessible by concrete steps from the interior courtyard, continues Casa Malandra’s artful connection to nature. The entire roof is planted with local vegetation, carefully transplanted from the surrounding area to minimize environmental impact. Another feature we love is the open-air shower, whose stark concrete walls create a dramatic contrast with the blue skies overhead.

Casa Malandra has 4 bedrooms that sleep up to 10 people. The master suite features a king-size bed, a private ensuite bathroom, and a spectacular terrace overlooking the pool and the ocean. The second bedroom includes 2 queen-size beds and an ensuite bathroom. The third and fourth bedrooms each have a king-size bed and an ensuite.

  • Bedroom 1: King bed with a spectacular terrace overlooking the pool and the sea, and own bathroom
  • Bedroom 2: 2 Queen beds and own bathroom
  • Bedroom 3: King bed with beautiful terrace and own bathroom
  • Bedroom 4: King bed and own bathroom

The grand palapa features a living room, dining area, kitchen, guest bathroom, and expansive terraces. An added extra is the screening room, which is perfect for movie nights. All bedrooms are air-conditioned and high-speed internet is available throughout the property.

The villa offers the services of a chef and housekeeping staff from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm daily, or until 9.30 pm for an extra free. There is 24/7 security. Please note that food and drinks are not included in the cost of the reservation. We can run you through the menu, prices, and send special requests to the team ahead of your stay.

Casa Malandra is located in the exclusive beach-front neighborhood of Punta Pajaros, 30 minutes from Puerto Escondido Airport (PXM) and 45 minutes from downtown Puerto Escondido. The neighborhood—if you could call it that, considering its simplicity and isolation—features three small restaurants (that close early), a mezcal bar, and a handful of art galleries.

Punta Pajaro’s crown jewel is Bosco Sodi’s famed Casa Wabi, an art studio and exhibition space built by Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Rent a car or take a taxi to get here; don’t plan to go anywhere. This is a spot to relax and forget the world.
