Designed by Mexico's AD100 architecture firm Goma Taller, Hacienda El Aguacate is a masterclass in minimal intervention. The 30-hectare Querétaro estate transforms a stunning 19th-century mill ruin into a contemporary retreat, a dialogue between memory and modern design.

Rather than erasing the past, the architects embraced the historical decay, allowing the raw stone structures to define the luxurious spaces within. Interior designer Patricia Hirschfeld complements this rustic interior with understated glamour, a centerpiece dining room clad entirely in gold leaf provides a brilliant, playful contrast.

The estate offers two pools: an intimate courtyard pool and jacuzzi set within the original foundations, and a dramatic, 25-meter lap pool perched on an upper ridge, offering panoramic 360-degree views of the semi-desert landscape.

This restored ecosystem, complete with private trails and a reactivated river system, is a truly low-impact sanctuary that sleeps up to 18 guests in sophisticated style. It is not merely a renovation; it is an architectural act of homage.

Amenities at Hacienda El Aguacate include two pools, a hot tub, a paddle court, a soccer field, a chapel, WiFi, a full kitchen, a fireplace, river access, and a courtyard pool and jacuzzi set within the ruins, complemented by indoor/outdoor lounges, a hammock terrace, and daily cleaning service.

Experiences available at the hacienda include river fishing, private walking trails, stargazing, yoga or ceremonies in the chapel, paddle, soccer, volleyball, and nature walks across the property.

The closest public airport to San Miguel de Allende is Querétaro (QRO), located just over 1 hour away. But depending on where you're flying from, you may find León/Guanajuato (BJX) - located 1.5 hours away - more convenient. If neither option works for you, you can easily fly into Mexico City (MEX) and take ground transport - it's 3.5 to 4.5 hours.
