The Mazul Collection is its own private beach club and 16 villas set in a 400-square-meter compound. Designed by Mexico City and New York-based studio RVTN, this breathtaking venue utilizes wood, adobe, and concrete to sit in perfect harmony with the coastal climate.

This listing is for one of the 12 beautiful two bedroom villas at Mazul, but feel free to note in your request if you'd like to rent multiple - we will share rates. Please note that each villa is decorated differently and the photos only represent some of the aesthetics.

The Design

RVTN is headed up by Mexican architect Andrés Bustamante Arrieta, who initially established the studio to work on projects with social impact. Mazul Collective is a departure from the RVTN’s work with NGOs but nonetheless draws on its experience with functional, sustainable design.

The architects aimed to respect the virgin coastal site as much as possible by utilizing only local expertise and materials. Each of the 16 compact units is built from concrete and rough brick that mimics chicharrón, the dappled rock formations that dot the site. Meanwhile, load-bearing concrete walls were stained with reddish pigment to bend with the sandy landscape.

Beyond their striking aesthetic, the property’s configuration is also ingenious. Each villa has floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that connect the entire space to the terrace, with its own private plunge pool positioned immediately in front. This layout cools the breezes that ventilate the interconnected interior spaces while maximizing each villa’s stunning ocean vista.

The Space

The Mazul Collection offers a setting for weddings and big get-togethers immediately beside the unspoiled Oaxacan coastline. The restaurant, bar, and villas are linked together by meandering paths surrounded by lush vegetation, accommodating up to 75 guests or events of over 100 people.

The 1-bedroom villas can accommodate up to 4 people each. Every 1-bed villa has a full kitchen, a complete bathroom, a bedroom with a double bed, a spacious living room with a sofa bed, and a plunge pool.

The 2-bedroom villas sleep up to 6, with two ensuite double rooms and a pull-out. The communal space includes a kitchen area, dining area, plunge pool, and first-floor and rooftop terraces, where you can catch breathtaking Oaxacan sunsets. All the villas are air-conditioned.

The Neighborhood

The Mazul Collection is in the small coastal community of Santa Elena El Tule, a town 45 minutes from Puerto Escondido Airport (PXM) and the downtown area. The same distance in the other direction is Mazunte, a bohemian enclave where you can find a few restaurants, small shops, and a yoga studio or two. Casa Cal is a place to completely disconnect—so if you do get the urge to explore, we suggest renting a car.
