As the name suggests, La Gema Escondida is a true hidden gem. Set behind unassuming black gates, the 5-bedroom cliffside villa brings together an old-school Acapulco aesthetic with laid-back surf culture, combining the glamor of a classic Mexican resort with quintessentially Oaxacan details. 

Meticulously restored by Puerto Escondido-based architect Luis Mendel, La Gema Escondida is one of the most sought-after resort-style properties in the collection. Playfully decorated with textiles by M.A. Estudio in Mexico City, the interior brings together modern and rustic accents to create a future-retro-tropical look that’s all its own.

The attention to detail throughout the house is outstanding; everything from the glasses to the plates is carefully chosen in line with the interior designer’s vision. A standout feature is the conversation-pit-style dining table, which combines 70s space-age design with a beachy, rustic feel. 

The view from the grand palapa is also nothing short of cinematic. Framed by the living area's sculptural light installation, the vista out onto the infinity pool towards the ocean is an influencer-worthy backdrop. 

La Gema Escondida has 5 bedrooms that can accommodate up to 12 guests. Each bedroom is air-conditioned with an en-suite bathroom, ceiling fans, luxury linens and sea views. 

At the villa's heart is a grand palapa that combines the indoor and outdoor areas into a sweeping open plan space, including a gourmet chef's kitchen, dining areas, multiple lounges, and a bar. Expansive terraces surround a dramatic infinity pool, offering panoramic views of the Pacific, while a cliffside jacuzzi provides a secluded spot for relaxation. The property is surrounded by a lush garden filled with bougainvillea, palm trees, and giant cacti.

La Gema Escondida includes a private chef who prepares locally sourced Oaxacan and international dishes for breakfast and lunch. Our chef is also available for dinner at an extra cost. Daily cleaning service and high-speed Starlink internet are also included. Note that for larger groups, we can combine the house with its sister property, two separate, two-story casitas, and a private pool to accommodate another 4 guests.

The town is easily accessible via Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM), which has direct flights from major cities in Mexico and Los Angeles (LAX). Alternatively, buses run regularly from Oaxaca City, which is around a three-hour trip.
