Designer Home in La Barra

Designed by Miguel Carroll, Casa Toro combines flowing lines with cast concrete to create a home with other-worldly intrigue. Located just a stone’s throw from one of Mexico’s hottest surf spots, the 2-bedroom villa offers panoramic views from its circular terraces and arched walkways.

The Design

Miguel Carroll is set to become one of Mexico’s most sought-after architects. With his forward-thinking perspective on sustainable materials and experimental forms, Casa Toro is a prime example of how he draws inspiration from multiple sources to create spaces with an ethereal aesthetic.

Our favorite feature is the elegantly integrated infinity pool. Curving around the property like the outer rings of a seashell, the pool area is a prime example of how Carroll looks to nature for futuristic design concepts. Carroll is also all about the details; another aquatic reference is the dome-shaped shell-effect lanterns that cast an iridescent light over the terrace on balmy Puerto Escondido nights. 

The Space 

Casa Toro sleeps up to 4 guests. The spacious bedrooms each have their own bathroom with lush climbing vegetation, and the master bedroom has direct access to its large rooftop terrace with breathtaking ocean views. Bedroom two features it’s own more intimate balcony area with dramatic sliding carved wood doors. 

The communal areas include a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and living space, with open-plan access to the terrace, garden, and wrap-around infinity pool. A daily cleaning service is included, and the chef can prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner for an extra cost. Satellite internet is also provided in case guests have to work.

The Neighborhood

Casa Toro is located on a quiet street near Punta Zicatela. "La Punta” is a small, laid-back surf town at the southern tip of Oaxaca's Pacific coast. Its main draw is the powerful surf break, which attracts serious surfers worldwide. 

Punta Zicatela features a mix of unpaved roads and sandy stretches lined with cafes, yoga studios, and small shops. Visitors can find a variety of local and international restaurants offering fresh seafood and vegetarian options, as well as laid-back bars for enjoying sunset drinks. We love the cocktail list and buzz at Punta Vida, located right on the beach.

To get to Punta Zicatela, you can fly into Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM) and then take a taxi or rent a car for a 10-15 minute drive. Alternatively, we can organize transport. Another option is a bus from major cities in Mexico, such as Oaxaca City (3 hours) or Mexico City (10-12 hours). Bear in mind that ATMs are thin on the ground, so bring cash.
