Casa KI is a beautiful 3 bedroom home in Mérida, Yucatán, that blends traditional architectural techniques with contemporary design. Designed by the talented Enekén Estudio and led by architect Miguel Tapia, this property integrates henequen—a material deeply rooted in the region’s history—into its furniture, finishes, and decorative elements. The restoration preserved original features such as limestone walls and vaulted ceilings built using the traditional bahpek system, ensuring the continuation of ancestral construction techniques.
Natural materials like chukum for waterproofing and mahogany wood for furniture enhance the connection to the local environment. The design incorporates preserved trees and lush tropical plants, creating a secluded and tranquil atmosphere. More than just a residence, Casa KI is a space where the history of henequen and Yucatán’s architectural heritage are reflected in every detail.
The house with the circular window that sees to the street, the mango tree and the collection of internal and external windows. In the mythical neighborhood of El Fenix, wich reborn as the bird that gives it it´s name, we find this house that still before entering, we see a little bit of the life it has inside. Between unique pieces of art we enter in a fresh and green patio. Under its large mango tree we can enjoy the pool or a backgammon game. The living room, always fresh, never closes its doors, and every one of its three rooms offer us moments of art, antiques and discoveries.
