Casa Viento

Set back from the white sands of Punta Pajaros, Casa Viento is one of a handful of high-end homes that dot the coastline. The home’s shady terraces and high windows gracefully integrate the architecture into the surrounding jungle, combining chic modern design with back-to-nature calm.

The Space 

Casa Viento is a single-level, 2-bed beach house that sleeps up to 4 guests. Each room has a king-size bed and en suite bathroom with dramatic French windows connecting the bedrooms to the outside. The dining and lounge area faces out onto the pool, where you can lounge on the daybed and take in the spectacular Oaxacan sunset. 

The Design

Casa Viento is designed by Aranza de Ariño, the same young Mexican architect who created the highly acclaimed Casa Tiny. The home follows in the same vein, incorporating Ariño’s signature raw concrete with elegant Parota wood accents to bring together hard-edged minimalism with organic forms. 

The home’s furnishings combine tradition and modernity with equal elegance, taking cues from local craftsmanship and contemporary Japanese design. A particular highlight is the Tatami-style beds, whose Parota wood frames create a unique centerpiece for each bedroom. 

The Neighborhood

Casa Viento is located in the exclusive beach-front neighborhood of Punta Pajaros, 30 minutes from Puerto Escondido Airport and 45 minutes from downtown Puerto Escondido. The neighborhood—if you could call it that, considering its simplicity and isolation—features three small restaurants (that close early), a mezcal bar, and a handful of art galleries. 

Punta Pajaro’s crown jewel is Bosco Sodi’s famed Casa Wabi, an art studio and exhibition space built by Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Rent a car or take a taxi to get here; don’t plan to go anywhere. This is a spot to relax and forget the world.
