Few studios do beachfront properties quite like Javier Duenas’ CDM Arquitectos. This chic 6-bedroom villa combines exquisite design and unparalleled tranquility, marrying the rustic simplicity of local materials with cool concrete expanses.

The Design

Javier Duenas has said that his creative process isn’t only about the space itself but those who inhabit it. The owners of Casa Kalkuya chose to locate their property on this secluded beach due to its absolute peace, and Javier’s aesthetic decisions closely reflect this intention.

The CDM Arquitectos team has created a space where raw, organic materials work in perfect harmony with sleek, contemporary accents. We love the contrast between the rustic palapas and the almost ecclesiastical approach to space and proportion, whose overall effect is reminiscent of a Zen temple on the Oaxacan coast.

The Space

Casa Kalkuya’s 6 bedrooms can accommodate up to 16 guests. Each spacious bedroom has a king-size bed, an en-suite bathroom, and direct access to the villa's spectacular outdoor spaces. The fifth bedroom includes an additional individual bed, while the he sixth bedroom has two queen-sized beds.

The expansive communal areas feature sweeping ocean views, while the fully equipped kitchen connects to the dining areas, creating an open-concept living space. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open onto the impressive infinity pool, which almost seems to connect to the Pacific Ocean. A few steps beyond are miles of unspoiled white sand.

Casa Kalkuya also offers a dedicated chef, while bartending, housekeeping, and gardening services are taken care of by the property’s team. A concierge is also available to assist with any requests or arrangements, and high-speed Starlink internet ensures uninterrupted connectivity.

The Neighborhood

Casa Kalkuya is located on a pristine stretch of beach south of Puerto Escondido. There are only a few other properties and one high-end hotel restaurant in its immediate vicinity; this is a place to relax, turn off, and tune out.

However, if guests want to venture further afield, Puerto Escondido is half an hour along the Carretera Costera. Puerto Escondido itself is a bustling surf town with a variety of bars, restaurants, and venues. We love Sommo, which serves exquisite sashimi and cocktails. Or, for a chic take on rustic favorites, we recommend the tamales at Terraza Molli. You can take a local taxi, or we can help arrange car hire.

When you arrive, you’ll fly into Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM), which is connected to all major Mexican hubs and Los Angeles (LAX). The property is 30 minutes from the airport in a taxi or private shuttle. You may also fly into Hualtuco International Airport (HUX), but please note it will be approximately 90 minutes via car to the property.
